Fire drills

Today we had 2 fire drills, one this morning after breakfast-we had to get our life jackets on, get to our muster stations, check in and then we get an immersion suit, get into the lifeboats, can fit 40 people. 1:30PM after lunch we had another drill, this one with a Coast Guard inspector. We went to our muster stations with our life jackets on, checked in, and proceeded to wait about 1/2 hour. The various Amundsen crewmembers who are part of the fire crews had to go through the complete fire stations routine/drill. We found places in the shade on the Heli Deck and chatted. Then we had to get an immersion suit and get buckled into the lifeboat. After that we went out on to the Helipad and put our immersion suits on to show the Inspector that we know what to do in an emergency. Talk about hot! The suits are made of rubber and neoprene and cover your entire body-the only part exposed is your face, the suit is meant to keep you completely dry-sort of. There were 40 people putting on these bright yellow oven suits, baking in the sun on the deck! But at least we know what to do in case of emergency.
