Preparing for The Expedition

A friendly welcome in the Anchorage Airport

I was picked up from my hotel after dinner by a NOAA Corps Officer and boarded the RAINIER. While getting situated with the layout of the ship I met many helpful crew members and was given a lot of helpful hints. Can you say "narrow walkways?" I have limited each meal to one helping to avoid having to turn sideways to fit through the passageways!

Tomorrow we get underway and head for the Pavlof Islands, which I'm told will take roughly 30 hours of transit time. I'm so excited to see what this hydrographic survey has in store for me!
