Research Experience: Impact of Climate Change on Antarctic Shelf Ecosystems (R/V NATHANIEL B. PALMER)
Research Objectives: To explore the potential impacts of climate change (e.g. reduction in sea-ice duration) on Antarctic shelf ecosystems in three-year study of benthic-pelagic coupling designed to evaluate a broad range of benthic ecological and biogeochemical processes along a latitudinal climate gradient on the Antarctic Peninsula. This Austral winter cruise will investigate winter regimes along a 5-station transect from Smith Island to Marguerite Bay.
Research funded by: National Science Foundation
Host Researcher: Dr. Craig Smith (University of Hawaii, Honolulu, HI)
Dates: July 10 - August 4, 2008
