Research Experience: Water quality in Rhode Island coastal waters
Research Objectives: To understand the physical, biological and chemical processes that lead to seasonal hypoxia in upper Narragansett Bay. Currents, hydrographic variables, and turbulent mixing will be measured using a shipboard acoustic Doppler current profiler and a towed instrument package. The rates at which organisms in the water use up oxygen will also be measured.
Research funded by: Rhode Island Sea Grant
Host Researchers: Dave Ullman and Kelly Henry - URI Graduate School of Oceanography
